Inspired by cutting-edge psychological research and the ambitious, often controversial, technological advancements of the Elon Musk era, The Good Device courageously asks: How do we measure worth? Through what? By what? And ultimately for whom? This sci-fi inspired drama delves into the deeply human desire for relief and the unsettling implications of achieving it through artificial means...

At its core, The Good Device follows Jamie (James Jip), a man hounded by years of debilitating depression and running out of conventional options. His chance at a new beginning comes in the form of a clinical trial for a brain-computer interface (BCI), a life-line boosted by his friend Lucia (a charming Lorraine Yu), who is interning at the very company conducting the trial.

James Jip delivers a compelling, nuanced performance as Jamie, charting a raw and believable trajectory. We witness the ebb and flow of his journey from profound despair into unsettling, almost manic, heights as the device takes effect. This internal turmoil mirrors a more external ethical debate between Lucia and Agnes, the driven figure behind the device, who embodies the sharp, jaded logic of scientific and capitalistic pursuit. The drama concerns not just the efficacy of the implant, but the very moral boundaries Agnes is willing to cross in her relentless pursuit of innovation.

The Good Device is a brave and timely exploration of the uncharted territories where science meets the soul, leaving the audience with profound questions about what truly constitutes a "good" life, and for whom we live it.

While this was a WIP that could benefit from tightening some deliveries to keep the audience gripped, and focusing on a more streamlined ending, this is still a piece of work packed with potential.
