This autumn, Sir Grayson Perry—one of Britain’s most distinctive artists and cultural commentators—will take to the stage in a nationwide tour with his new live show Are You Good?, an exploration of morality, identity, and the illusions we hold about our own virtue.
Known for his fearless social commentary, flamboyant persona, and unique artistic voice, Perry promises an evening that is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining. With characteristic wit and irreverence, the Turner Prize-winning artist will lead audiences on a journey to interrogate their own moral compasses—"in a fun way", of course.
“‘Are You Good?’ is a question that I think is fundamental to our humanity,” Perry has said. “I always start out with the assumption that people are born good and then life happens. So, let’s pull back the curtain and see where your morals truly lie.”
The show blends audience interaction (no one leaves unscathed, he warns), sharp social insight, and even the occasional silly song. Expect a night that challenges assumptions, sparks debate, and maybe even leaves you questioning whether it’s more important to be good or to be right.
From Turner Prize to National Treasure
Grayson Perry rose to international fame after winning the prestigious Turner Prize in 2003. A Royal Academician since 2012, his work spans an eclectic range of media—from richly detailed tapestries and ceramics to elaborate dresses, cast-iron sculptures, and even architecture.
Highlights of his artistic career include the seminal exhibition Guerilla Tactics (Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, 2002), the global tour of The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever! (2015–2017), and the acclaimed retrospective The Pre-Therapy Years (Holburne Museum, Bath, 2020).
One of his most celebrated works, The Vanity of Small Differences (2012), a series of six large tapestries inspired by Hogarth’s A Rake’s Progress, was also the subject of the BAFTA-winning Channel 4 series All in the Best Possible Taste.
Perry's forays into television have only broadened his influence. His 2014 documentary series Who Are You?—which examined identity and featured sitters ranging from everyday people to public figures—earned him another BAFTA and an accompanying exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. In All Man (2016), he took a deep dive into masculinity and gender stereotypes, themes he later explored in his bestselling book The Descent of Man.
More recently, Perry became a lockdown staple with Grayson’s Art Club (2020–2021), a heartwarming Channel 4 programme that showcased public submissions and highlighted the unifying power of art during a time of isolation.
Now, with Are You Good?, Perry returns to live audiences, bringing his fascination with human behaviour, ethics, and cultural contradictions directly to the stage.
